My russian tortoise has had a rough winter. I posted about a month ago about him scratching so bad his feet bled... That's all figured out, but now I am wondering why he is so antisocial!

When I first got him over a year ago he was very curious about his surroundings and interested in me (with or without food in my hand!). Recently he has been terrified of me and hides when I try to touch him or even put my hand in his box.

I guess my questions are why is he acting like this and is there any way I can bond with my tortoise again!?

You mention a past health issue. Did you have to treat him? Were you directly involved with administering the treatment? If so, that could be why he covers when your hands approach.

Try giving him some time to settle back into a normal routine. A month in tortoise time isn't very long. When you do want to interact with him, offer a special edible treat so you are associated with yummy goodness.

I will try feeding him his favorite food- carrots! Also, I did have to keep his feet very clean, so it's not surprising that he may be afraid of me. Thank you!
