hi all! i am still thinking about getting another adult pancake. i think my male would leave zoey alone alittle more. LOL' but, I DON'T LIKE SHIPPING , because of what happened to me, just getting the two pancakes i have now. got them at a reptile show. my male died 3-4 days after i got them. both were sick, cost me a large amount of money and a few letters to seller from my vet. now my male is momo (dead) he sends me one in the mail. i will post the package because , you would not belive it. new male sick too! thats over a year ago . my pair are in great shape & very active & happy. would like another female , have to think hard about it. any advise would be great. thanks guys, lindy :tort:

Bottom line here, GET CAPTIVE BRED! Many, many, many imported Pancakes and other species of tortoises face a similar doom. It is not easy to get an adult captive bred animal, but if you wait you might find one. The next solution would be get a yearling or so and put some time in to her. If you are not willing to wait for a yearling to grow and don't want to wait for a captive bred female to become available, my next suggestion is wait until you find a reputable person who is letting a long term captive female (LTC) go. However, this ads other issues that would have to be addressed before putting with the male.

Again my advice, since you asked for advice is simply wait for a captive bred female to be offered.

I got mine at a reptile show and was told he was captive bred and came from ben siegel. I was not comfortable buying from someone who was not the breeder, but did it anyway. He was either sick or had something stuck in his nose. He did a lot of noisy breathing for a couple weeks, then he had a prolapsed rectum. He is fine and healthy now. I will never buy from anyone other than the breeder ever again.
Does anyone know of a good breeder? I am willing to travel to get one.

If you want to take the heat off, separate them. Give the female some time without him around. That is the best way to take the heat off her.
