I know reptiles get egg bound from lack of calcium. Not sure if this is the same with torts.

Are you sure she was pushing? Pancakes, as well as others can dig nests for a week or more before laying. If she has laid once, I think egg binding is unlikely. Give her time and space, she will lay.

I have a redfoot female that often does this, digging and abandoning the site for a week or more sometimes, before finally laying.

Hi MOMO~I think it also depends on the species and tortoise. Has your tortoise ever laid eggs before for you to know her behavior. See my Sulcatas tend to do a few test holes and then lay their eggs within about a week of the test holes. My leopards tend to get right down to it without test holes. My stars on the other hand tend to be sporatic in the sense that I have one that tends to do test holes and then lay and another that will do what yours is doing but isn't at all egg bound. She will pace and then go to her spot and sit in that position, showing all signs of egg-laying for a couple weeks before she'd lay (not doing it everyday). I gave one of my stars a warm soak around that time and surely enough...as soon as I put her back in her enclosure out came eggs. I'm not saying to not call the vet. It's always good to be on the safe side. Often times he/she can feel around too without an x-ray.

I know it's such an exciting time. I also agree with Tim/Robin that they when they are digging, you want to try and not let them see you, as that too can cause a delay in the process.

zoey and snip but quite, since the storm, power loss. i got a generator, so i didnt have to worry about them. but could not go to vet. on monday. street closed, flooding & lines down. we still have no power. have alot to do . zoey may go this week. i think it couldnt hurt to have an xray. she had egss for the first time jan. 23rd & 2 days later! I give them a good diet, calcium and multivitamins. and get them outside in the sun as much as i can. i make them walk their butts off outside.. so, i am sure shes ok, but still want to make sure. dont worry, i will post it. maybe she has 2 eggs again? 'lol' lindy
