I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if there was any plants that I could put in my cage to grow to make it look better. My tortoise is 8 months old. Here is a pic of Leroy. ImageUploadedByTortoiseForum1365358226.870657.jpg

Hi, Tkociban! Welcome to the forum!

Good looking tort you have there. Go to the Sulcata Diet Sheet thread at the top of the African Tortoises section. Any plant they can eat can be grown in their enclosure. I think the easiest and most size-appropriate would be some of the grasses. I found seeds for several at a local nursery. If you buy the plants themselves, you can't let Leroy eat any of it for a year unless it's guaranteed organic, because chemical fertilizers are bad for him. You can assume most nurseries, especially big box ones like Home Depot, are using chemical fertilizers.

Good luck and have fun!

My local pet store (petco) sells young plants meant to be grown in enclosures you think they would use pesticides

I would hope not, but I don't know. I'd ask them, and if they don't know, ask them to find out for you.
