Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. I just got a russian tortise abiut three months ago and he has seemed healthy so far. For the past week I was on vacations and couldn't take him, so my mom took care of him for me. Once I found that it seems that on his legs and tail it looks like at least half his scales have come off. It just looks like normal skin underneath, it's not irritated or red and inflamed at all. I know that they can shed so I looked it up and on most sites it said they usually only shed their actual skin? Could this be due to his diet, because once I got home I found that my mom had mostly been feeding him spinach for the last week because she didnt know what else to give him. I'm just really worried and hoping this isn't anything serious! If any of you guys know what it might be then it would be awesome if you could share your thoughts! Thankyou so much!

Can you provide various pictures at different angles so we can get a better idea of what the signs and or issues are?

Shedding skin can be normal and can also be a form of other factors as I'm sure you're already aware of.

Feeding too much spinach to tortoises can be potentially dangerous. Foods like spinach can cause kidney stones and gout like complications to tortoises in huge amounts.

Here are some links on Russian tortoise care. This information will be useful to you and your future pet sitters.
