Welcome to the world of having a tortoise!

Since your new friend has been in a closed space without water for a day or so, it would be good to let her have a nice soak when you get home. You'll need something that holds water, with steep sides that your tortoise can't climb out of, like a plastic box or the kitchen sink. (Whatever you use make sure there isn't any soap or other residue sticking to the sides.)

Make the water be nicely warm. To check if it is too hot or too cold run it over the inside of your wrist. As long as the temperature is comfortable for you on that part of your wrist, it will be good for your tortoise.

Make it only as deep as where the top and bottom of the shell comes together. Because the water is so shallow it will get too cold quickly. Change it out frequently to make sure your tortoise doesn't get chilled.

Soak your tortoise for a half an hour or longer. Monitor all the time to make certain your tortoise doesn't end up on its back. Russians act like the want to get out, but don't fall for that. Its very good and healthy for every tortoise to have nice long soaks.

If you have any questions about anything, post them here! We'll do our best to help!
