Greetings all

Really sad story to share with the group. I went out for my 0600 run yesterday morning and I had only traveled about 1/2 mile when I came upon the tragedy. There on the side of the road was a squashed female Eastern Box Turtle. It had either made its way almost all the way across, or had just crawled out and made it only a foot. Very sad sight. Nice large female. The sad thing too was that I guess in the process of being hit, the sheer blunt force of the vehicle squished out a few eggs as well. I could see the flattened remains of three or so eggs. Just wish some kind soul could have moved this boxie, only on her way to deposit some eggs in the surrounding wooded area. :-(

This is indeed a sad story. I'll never understand why people have to do this. Of course, sometimes it really is an accident, but more often than not it was done on purpose.

I found one on a morning run myself a few weeks back. Same situation. This one looked like a juvenile, but it was really hard to tell, if you know what I mean.
