Now that I'm back to work, I'm sort of curious about what George spends his day doing... I leave breakfast and turn on his light when I leave for the office between 630-700 and when I get home it's obvious he has traipsed all over his tub... eaten every scrap of food, filled his water dish with coco coir, and done some digging... but by the time I get home he's settled right back into the same "nook" he was in when I left in the morning. I'll coax him out in the evening with another small handfull of greens just to see him move around a bit, but I'm wondering if this is "normal" for a tort. I don't guess in the wild they do much more than graze, bask, and sleep, but since I'm not here to see it, inquiring minds want to know...

If you have wireless in your house you can set up a baby monitor so you can spy on him through a smart phone when you are at work :) I want wireless just for this reason lol.

You know, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe setting up a webcam is going to be a weekend project!

Eloise is the same way....although she's normally basking when I get home she loves to bask!! She is most active on the weekends from about noon to about 5pm so I imagine that's why I miss her during the week...but I got one of those outlet timers and set it to turn on at 6 am and off at 9pm and this morning she was up and basking by 7am and ready for a bite to eat by 7:30 first time I've seen her that early and she even looked happy to be awake!!! I think it's probably normal!! big "heavy" shell short little legs I'm sure that would be tiring to move about and going to bed early would be neccessary. lol

Thanks! It's reassuring to know George is "normal" :) I found a light timer stashed in the back of a drawer, but of course the battery back up is drained. As soon as I get to Walmart to pick up new batteries, George will be on a timer too.

Lol, my tort sleep around 6 pm. When sunset start, they began to find a corner to stay or crawling to bedroom, which is a separate small house from their play ground.

Eloise is setup on a firm schedule now...I have the timer set for 6 am and I'm up by 7 am during the work week...she is usually up by that time and looking to eat so I give her food clean her water and head out for work...she is basking when I get home around 5:30 and her timer turns the lights off at 9 pm by which time she has been in bed for an hour...she is definetly more active after soaking though and I like to soak 2-3 times a week so on week nights when I soak she will be more active and has gotten the lights turned off on her before she went to bed on her own a couple times.

I didn't get a cam set up, but I did get to do some observing this weekend since I was around the house more often than usual. George definitely has a schedule. It seems to help now that I have his light on a timer - on ay 8AM, of at 9PM. I change out the food and water before going to work, so it's waiting for him when he warms up. He's been much more active this week - I can tell a difference just by how much his "stuff" is moved around the tub. Usually by 8PM he's found a corner to settle into for the evening.
