Can I use grazing rye as a food for my Leopards? I know it's often grown as green manure and as a foil for weeds but as it is a rye grass is it OK to feed to my boys? I read somewhere that it can cause ergot poisoning in young animals which I take to mean calves, lambs etc. Whadyaallthink????

It would be ok, however bear in mind that when grasses get too tall the tortoises avoid eating them and look for shorter, tastier blades.

The ergot poisoning occurs when fungus grows on the "flower" of the plant. Since you are going to keep your grass cut short for the sulcata, you probably won't have fungus growing on the seed heads.
