So, I seperated my two boys about a week ago - maybe a little longer because I saw Tank trying to mount Dozer. I only saw it once, but figured that's all it takes. Today I go down and they are both running the perimiter of their half of the enclosure. I figure they're bored right? I took the divider out and they actually ran right to eachother, sniffed, and then began walking around together

Can tortoises have seperation anxiety if they've been together long enough? They have been in the same enclosure together for almost 4 years now...I am putting the divider back in tonight while I'm sleeping - just in case. But if I'm home and want to take it out, is that ok? Or is it confusing to them?

Also, how do you make a tortoise not bored? I tried to put in a smaller rock to push around and Tank ignored it. Dozer didn't even go in the area it was in. How do you deal with a bored "kid"?

I am not sure about the separation anxiety, or if you taking the barrier away during the day, but putting it back in at night is good or not.

As far as having fun, have you tried a RED ball of some sort? I tried a white Ping-Pong ball with my 2.5" Leo, and he didn't use it much. I then found a red one, and he does chase it around.

How big are thery? Don't want the ball TOO big of course.

I also built a "tort bridge" that I see my Thor walk over and under a lot.

They could be constantly walking around too because there isn't enough room, or lack of goodies to snack on. Do they graze on grass yet or just weeds? Mine do not graze on grasses yet at now 3 inches, but he does hunt for weeds. And I will see him moving around a lot looking for them.

They had food in there while they were walking. Hmm...red, I'll have to find one :) They are 8" and 5" so, pretty decent sized. I love that bridge! And yes, since the enclosure is seperated now, I know it needs to be bigger. We are looking for a new house though...so I was hoping to wait until then as space is kind of limited :blushing: I also have a hard time finding tings to put into the enclosure to make it more exciting because they're bigger now - they just down everything that I try lol. I think instead of building a whole new enclosure for now, I'll build two smaller ones and attatch them to either side of the existing one and create a doorway...maybe that would work?

I did go down and check on them before I came back on here. Tank was mounting the front of Dozer again :( So the divider went back in. I guess I can't even leave it out for a few hours.

I'd say it's probably safe to assume to just keep them separate. I am sure after months of being apart, they will be fine.

Depending on how much space you have currently for each, it might just be that, not the separation. I agree though, add on if you can, if that's all you want to do for now. Better than nothing!

Have you had danny sex them yet? He could probably be 100% certain on the 8" and have a really good idea on the 5 incher.

As far as the bridge goes, it isn't that hard to do. You could always make a bigger one too (I know I am once these guys get bigger!)

I don't need Danny to sex them. They've both flahsed me lol. May I ask what you used for the bridge and how it was done? I may even want to make one for the boxies outside and one for the aquatics under water :p
