I think it is a Eastern Spiny Softshell, Apalone spinifera
Yup...looks like Apalone spiniforus.
He is in a tank in the garage for the winter. 
Its a Spiney Softshell. I have a baby one.
Like the others in this case, I'm siding with the eastern softshell, apalone spinifera spinifera. This is the subspecies you're most likely to encounter in the pet trade.
