Bought a book shelf from Ikea today, it's 4 x 2 x 1.5ft. Things that will be going in soon will be:
Large tortoise hut
Reptile felt type carpet
Rocks
Boston Fern leaves
Megaray MVB and exo terra glow lamp

Most of the products coming in are from Sarah's Shelled Warriors shop. When I put Torty in his new enclosure today, he was very curious, he walked to every corner of the enclosure chekcing it out.

So I am assuming the property passed inspection and will be his primary residence as of January 2010?;)

How do keep the felt carpet clean and "unsmelly"?

Haha indeed. It will be his enclosure till he grows to say 5-6 inches afterwhich I will upgrade him to a 6x2.5ft.
I will be spot cleaning which I already do everyday. Also will wash the carpet 1-2 times a week.
I know the enclosure looks very bare and sad but I am building it up.

I tried a few kinds of carpet and was very unhappy with them with my Red-foots. I wish you better luck, but you may want a 'plan B' just in case. The problem for me was that they tended to drag and smear everything, rubbing it in at the same time. Forewarned is forearmed.

Way back in the olden days, I had a room mate who had a few baby desert tortoises. She bought several yards of indoor/outdoor carpeting and cut them to fit inside the AQUARIUM that housed the babies. When one got dirty, she removed it and added a new one. The carpeting was hosed off, then put into the washing machine. It worked just fine for her. Personally, I don't like it, but it does work for some people.

The rippled/ribbed style is the one favored by Reptile fanatics when the fake grass is chosen. The little Dinosaurs can grip it. The common style that you have gets chewed.

What a big space for your little tortoise. He won't get bored. It looks great. I love the curtain rod that you used very good idea. ;)

I agree, that looks like a nice big space for your tort.
But I thought carpet was always a big no-no with hatch-lings because it's impossible to keep humidity up?

So far no dragging

Which is why I placed an order for the felt type flat carpet

Humidity level is between 70-90%

No worries, just hand over Nelson to me :)

So Torty was a little nervous being in his new enclosure and ate very little so I decided to give him his favorite food as a treat which he gobbled up.
