Does anyone put a water treatment in their tort's water? I mean the kind that might go in an aquarium to keep bacterial growth down.
I fill Sherman's dish every day or 2, but there's still a slimy growth that develops on the bottom/sides that I'm not crazy about. I use "city" tap water.
Thanks.

No I do not. I shrub the dish with a tooth brush and use mostly distilled water.

Nope (tape water). I wash the water and food dishes once a week with dish soap and a brush I use just for that. In between, if I see chunks of anything, I wash it too. I don't get slimy stuff.

Same goes here. I give fresh water daily, wash the dishes and will let them dry all the way in the sun, and then fill with fresh water again.

The slime is not a big deal unless it changes color or starts to smell. In general, any water you can drink, the tortoise can as well.

No water treatment for me, every few days we just wash with dish soap, dry it and put it back into the enclosure. I have never had an issue with slime and it could be that we just clean the water bowl enough to avoid it from happening.

Haha, I had the same worries about that slime issue. Apparently its not a big deal. I have a few plant saucer things for the water dishes that I interchange out... I would switch out the dirty slimy one scrub it down clean with a little soap and let it air dry and put in a dried one and fill and switch them out again etc. I do however.... let the tap water sit out overnight since the water is so chlorinated...
