As I read these great posts, I am seeing hatchling, baby, yearling, juvenile, adult, and variations of these. Can someone please explain the approximate ages these names relate to? People are so helpful on this forum and have posted very valuable information, so I want to be able to figure out which stage of life these posts sometimes apply to. Thank you

My guess and only a guess mind you depends on breed of tortoise and its life span expectations?

There are many different opinions on this. I consider the following:

Hatchling = from first coming out of the egg to about a month or so old, once it's out and about more.

Baby/Yearling = a tortoise up to a year old.

Juvenille = a young tortoise up to the point of almost sexually active.

Sub adult = a young, almost (or just barely) sexually active adult.

Adult = a tortoise that is of breeding size and age.

There are no "standards" really, everyone has a different version of the above definitions.

Yup mine go like this:
Hatchling: just came out if the egg to 1ish months.
Baby: 1ish to 8ish months
Yearling: 8 months to 15
Juvenile: 15 to sexual maturity
Sub-Adult: sexually matured but not quite full size (kinda like a 15 or 16 year old human)
Adult: fully sexually matured till end of life

So when they are a sub-adult, do you also want to put them on the curb with a free sign like you do for human teenagers? :p
