What is the best substrate

I've been using (as suggested by place I purchased) half play sand and half organic peatmoss...kept moistened. Is this ideal? Do I need to keep it moist as I do have water at all times in with my sulcata tortoise.
Also.... ideal temperatures? She( ???) is 6 months old. thank you so much!!

I think sand, in any amount, is a bad idea. I recommend against it.

Once they get to around 6-8" I move them outside into a proper enclosure 24/7.

Thank you!!! That is some awesome info. I'm going to change the substrate ASAP! She is in a 40 gallon glass terrarium now....but she gets out everyday to get some sun. I was told she could be in it for 3 years. Well I can tell you right now that will not be happening! Are they kidding? Again, appreciate all the info! Cindy
