Hi guys, since this forum has been helping me a lot,i'd figured i might as well ask whenever i need advice.
i have this bulb that says in the box N1 Basking reptile bulb,or something like that.
It also says it provides Sunlight and UVA,i dont see UVB written anywhere...And i know that turtles need UVB as much as i need coffee(really ;D).
My bulb holder only has room for 1 bulb, and this bulb provides heat and even tho it isnt in the box i "suppose it gives UVB as well?
What do y'all think?

That is just a reptile basking bulb, no UVB in those. For UVB, it is really recommended to use the linear T5 high output fixtures. I really like the arcadia ones. What kind of turtle/tortoise do you need the lighting for?

No, these are not good because they produce a concentrated spot. Look for an incandescent flood lamp from the hardware store for heat. Buy multiple wattage bulbs so that you can dial in the temp for basking, or you can alter the height to do the same.

Look for a T5 HO straight tube-style lamp for UVB.

As mentioned above, UVB tube light all the way dude! Without a decent uvb light source at correct strength your asking for trouble for sure. I use the arcadia pro t5 kit, 39w @ 12% strength and its a great bit of kit.

It's for my baby common musk turtle
I use a T5 HO either the zoomed 5% bulb or arcadia 6% UVB for my musk turtles. I also give them a basking area with a flood lamp even though they rarely bask. Musk turtles don't need as much UVB as other aquatic/semi-aquatic turtles.

That bulb can work for a musk turtle, but is a bit strong for a small turtle. However, musk turtles do not really bask out of the water that much. They tend to float bask and also "bask" in shallow water. I have seen musks raised successfully on many occasions with no basking area at all, but I like to still provide it. Keep the water temperature up above 75° and a simple incandescent 75 watt bulb can work well for a basking spot, even though you may not see the musk turtle use it much at all.

UVB is good to offer, but can be done without with a good diet. Musk turtles are almost strictly carnivorous/insectivorous so adding young fish to the diet is a great way to add Vitamin D. I also get them eating a good pellet food with calcium and vitamin D as soon as possible. I do provide UVB in my tanks for turtles. It really depends upon your setup. A good compact fluorescent from a respected manufacturer can be a good choice for a small aquatic over a small basking area. I would prefer a 12"-24" Fluorescent tube that can provide a bit wider basking area for a musk that covers more of the water area. That would include and area with plants (fake or live) near the surface where the turtle can hang in the plants in the water. UVB penetrates water well and this creates a natural "basking zone" a musk would tend to use.
