I found my tortoise had little interest in food. I examed her and found the bleeding between carapces, where my thumb is pointing to. Does anyone know what’s going on? Thank you!

This tortoise has sepsis. It is a severe systemic infection and the tortoise is quite likely to die at this point unless you have a very good reptile vet nearby.

Is it still living today?

OMG! Thank you Dr Zovick! I am looking for treatment immediate. Do you mind share what could have caused this?

Sorry, but I cannot really tell what may have caused this. Has the tortoise been inactive and not eating for a quite while now? How often have you picked it up and looked at it as you did when you found the bleeding? Have you been soaking it?

She has been not very active maybe in a month. She eats but not much. She moves but sleeps a lot. I checked her every few days, but might have missed the red parts. So I cannot tell exactly when the sepsis started unfortunately. Recently she closed her eyes a lot so I started to pay more attention. I don't usually soak her but put her in a very shallow water container and let her drink at will about twice a week.

What kind of tortoise is this? I would recommend taking it to a good vet very soon if possible.

Good luck and keep us posted of the progress.
