Thank you! Yes, he has a bigger one as well for his soaks. He has a good diet mostly weeds during the warm weather months, and we do calcium sprinkle on his food once a week, is that sufficient? He is not at all interested in his cuttlebone while our Greek tortoise devours his. Chip came to us...
Oh that's interesting about the new growth, I didn't think of that!
It's funny that we could tell even more that it's him by his personality than appearance. Crazy how these little creatures can have such personality.
Thank you for your support throughout those long 10 months Yvonne!
Aw thank you! I just kept hearing people who posted here say, "never give up hope" and my kids missed him so much that I kept searching, calling rescues and vets, and posting online. The goodness of so many people who helped with advice and looking for that little guy was truly heart warming.
Also- if anyone is curious about if shells can change... I'd done a lot of research on if shells could change and learned they can somewhat depending on the environment. I have observed subtle shell color changes over time with our other two. Chip's shell has the same pattern but the yellow...
Hi all~ Just another Chip update...
He is doing great back at home. He definitely seems to have reached adolescence in his 9 months away as he's more into biting (I think territorial behavior?) then before. Otherwise he is his same sweet self with all of the same mannerisms.
I'm so glad that...
That is so sad! And not surprising. I wish I had known of this forum and done better research before purchasing from tortoise town. They shipped us something completely different from what we ordered and he was very sick. After $1000+ in vet bills we have nursed the poor guy back to life, but...
We’re so happy to have Chip back! He is back to his very energetic self. Here he is playing soccer! I couldn’t upload the video so here’s a screen shot. He races after the ball & tries to bite it.
He’s also really into running after our feet & climbing on shoes & trying to bite everything. He...
Yes! Well, we are 99% sure it's him. His shell has the same exact markings, just lighter (more yellow and some yellow lines filled in to form a solid) maybe from being out in the sun (he was gone 10 months but that includes winter). He's the same size just a hair bigger as expected, has the same...
So interesting that your experience supports my theory. How do you know your boy was wild caught?
Same- Chip would rather walk than pick something up from the floor while our other is like a vacuum- I need it to be perfectly clean for him. I feel badly for Chip because he wants to be free (and...
So, I'm convinced that Chip was a wild caught tortoise (insert mad face). We got him from a super sketchy "breeder"(Tortoise Town) that fooled me and I've learned a lot since about them. We bought a box turtle hatchling and they sent a super sick adult Eastern Hermann's (Chip). We nursed him...
Thank you! It so crazy to have him back after almost 10 months and we don't know what happened on his travels, but he is getting lots of soaks and good food and seems happy to be back!
