    Hermann's hibernation question

Hello! My 20 year old Hermann's tort, Speedy, is currently in hibernation. He's been in the fridge since Dec. 1st. He pooped some time in the last two days, and I discovered it today, so I took him out and removed the feces. It was very dry, so I don't think he has peed. However, he opened his...

    Waterproof indoor enclosure

Well I don't have room for that right now, but I want to make it as good for him as possible with what I do have. Could we focus on the actual question in the first post?

    Waterproof indoor enclosure

He's about 13,5 cm. What are you saying would be a good size enclosure?

    Waterproof indoor enclosure

Hello! I'm in the process of creating a new enclosure for my 18 y.o. hermanni tort Speedy! He's been living indoor in a tub all his life, but it's time for something bigger. I bought a shelf, took out the shelves and put it on the ground. I'm planning to somehow cover it with some kind of...

    Up from hibernation, questions

Hello, fellow tortoholics! My tortoise, Speedy, is to awake from hibernation this weekend, and I'm wondering how I should do it. I usually leave him in room temperature for a couple of hours before I heat him up with his heat bulb. Now, he's been hibernating at my dad's, and I have to bring...

A bit of my tortoises beak came off?

This has happened a few times to me - I see a piece that definetely came from Speedy's mouth, I freak out, and then I notice he actually looks better without it. His beak grows a little too fast, so I guess this is just nature's way of trimming it.

    "Bubbles" appearing on shell

Nobody's heard of this before? I won't get ahold of a camera until next week at least, so I was hoping it was a common problem that people had heard of before...

    "Bubbles" appearing on shell

Before hibernation I noticed two "bubbles" on Speedy's shell, but I figured it wasn't anything serious. But now his whole shell appears to be filled with vague spots almost resembling bubbles in ice. I can only see them when looking from close up, and they're not visible at all on my photos...

    Pellets

I've had my Speedy since he was a hatchling (for about 13 years), but I've only recently started giving him pellets. I bought a bag of this kind of pellets, and he absolutely loves them! He actually picks them out from his regular food when I mix them together. However, I searched it today, and...

    A question on hibernation

Thanks for the replies! He really is a champ - after going a month without food and heat, he's still running around like a madman (or madtortoise, haha). By the way, when I said travel, I meant by bus, train and plane, not my own car. But anyway, it's a nice little story you have there, Terry...

    A question on hibernation

It is now that time of the year again, where Speedy no longer gets his food in preparation for his hibernation. I did until very recently believe that hibernation was a mandatory part of a tortoise's life, but after some reading around, I'm not so sure anymore. He is 13 years old, and this...

How to calm down an overly active tortoise?

Edna, I'm still not convinced he's trying to hide. As you can see in the beginning, he's trying to climb on top of my feet, not hide under them. Cherylim - This is our secondary house by the sea, where we go when we have some days off. The floor isn't heated, but his enclosure is, and he's only...

How to calm down an overly active tortoise?

He finally calmed down and noticed his food ^^ Edna, doesn't it look more like he's following everything that moves? He runs towards me most of the time. I think he might be a bit confused sexually - caught him humping my pants a few times today. Could this be a factor? Anyway, I'm glad you...
