My tortoise, Speedy, is to awake from hibernation this weekend, and I'm wondering how I should do it. I usually leave him in room temperature for a couple of hours before I heat him up with his heat bulb.

This has happened a few times to me - I see a piece that definetely came from Speedy's mouth, I freak out, and then I notice he actually looks better without it. His beak grows a little too fast, so I guess this is just nature's way of trimming it.
Nobody's heard of this before? I won't get ahold of a camera until next week at least, so I was hoping it was a common problem that people had heard of before...
Before hibernation I noticed two "bubbles" on Speedy's shell, but I figured it wasn't anything serious. But now his whole shell appears to be filled with vague spots almost resembling bubbles in ice. I can only see them when looking from close up, and they're not visible at all on my photos...
I've had my Speedy since he was a hatchling (for about 13 years), but I've only recently started giving him pellets. I bought a bag of this kind of pellets, and he absolutely loves them! He actually picks them out from his regular food when I mix them together.
