    Thoughts on this rabbit hutch?

I found this two story rabbit hutch on Amazon. It's insulated with styrofoam and has plastic over the wire parts. Of course the ramp need railings, but otherwise I thought this might be a pretty good option for people with smaller/young torts. What do you think...

May need to give up my three cherryhead redfoots

As some of you may know, I have three cherryhead redfoots born in May 2013, February 2014, and May 2014 approximately 5", 4", and 3" respectively. I acquired these tortoises having a certain life plan in place, but alas that has changed. My now ex and I share the same house that he owns and my...

    Outdoor Redfoot Enclosure

Sorry, but I just have to say that I've never seen a pyramiding tortoise like that as the picture on something for sale. You think they would have picked a better tortoise for the box. Bad marketing. Many inexperienced people are likely to think that is okay after seeing it on packaging.

    Re-did the tort enclosure today

The water dishes are level with the substrate. It's just hard to tell from the picture. And they have their own shed. The "enclosure" takes up about half the space of the shed since they're still small, but the entire shed is set to their climate.

    Re-did the tort enclosure today

No one got back to me today on the food and diet section as to whether free feeding white clovers is a good idea, so I just went ahead and planted the seeds. Half of the exposed coco coir is planted with white clover and the other half winter rye grass. We'll see how that pans out over the next...

Winter Rye and White Clover for the Enclosure?

I'm redoing my enclosure today-all fresh coco, sphagnum moss, cypress mulch, new hides, etc. I found a local garden center here that I had never been to before and they had a bunch of seeds. I was so excited and wanted to get some just for cover in the enclosure for free feeding and helping...

    Shed Enclosure Questions

It's already paneled, and I don't know if it will make all that big of a difference, but since I just thought of it, I thought I would mention that it already has electricity running to it with outlets, so I couldn't mess with that part and would have to just insulate around it.

    Shed Enclosure Questions

We are moving soon to a house with a great big yard which includes this shed. This shed was a selling point of the house and will be used to house my three Cherryhead Redfoots. My torts are all still quite young (1-2 years) and small, so they will not be allowed to roam outside the shed...

    Economists simply don't understand tortoises

The book is not talking about consumables. It is talking about everything, but primarily focusing on goods. Most of the examples focus on buying CDs and movies. It's the same thing as a tortoise. You have a collection of CDs, a collection of movies, or a collection of tortoises.

    Economists simply don't understand tortoises

Excerpt from my economics text: Much of the power of the preferences models we use in this course derives from one simple assumption: non-satiation, or “more is better.” Economists assume that more of a good is always better than less. This does not mean that you are equally happy with the...

    Thoughts on conservation/hobbyists?

So this is just something I've been thinking about, and I don't really have an answer or opinion because I guess maybe I don't have enough information, so I wanted thoughts from the experienced guys and gals on here. I see a lot about how turtle/tortoise hobbyists are helping with conservation...

A major problem with my tortoise (pink colored organ came out))

    Wow! Tortoise penises are crazy-looking.

    Red foot hatchling

Have you given your tort store-bought greens like spring mix, kale, spinach, etc.? Greens (meaning store-bought greens, "weeds" like clover and dandelion, and grasses) should really be the staple of his/her diet. Also, how much exactly is s/he eating? It may not seem like enough to you, but...

    Anyone else get annoyed...

with all of your other animals? We have two cats, a dog, and three tortoises. One cat jumps on the counter and eats your food, walks all over you when you sleep, and throws up on the floor and sometimes on the bed. The other cat runs around like crazy when you're sleeping, makes loud banging...
