Do Russian Tortoises ever drink ?

Just curious, I know they drink, but in years of tort keeping , I never seen them use their water dish or pond ever. When I soak them I will see a head dip every once in awhile. I made an elaborate and custom pond, both indoor and out, years already, never once seen a tort use it. Just...

Are Russian Tortoise's boring, or is it just me ?

I have 4 Russians, for over 10 years. All healthy, no changes. All they do is bury themselves in the substrate and eat for an hour a day. They all have grown very well. Is this normal for this species. I had a Sulcata a long time ago, and he was crazy active. Just curious what peeps think...

Arcadia 39 w UVB light fixture.

Yes, thats a good setup, not sure why such an expensive light just cant put 2 holes in top so we can hang them with chains. But my clips dont seem to fit on the fixture like yours do.

Arcadia 39 w UVB light fixture.

Ok, this is what I received exactly, please let me know what you guys think. I also have the bulb, not pictured. Not sure what I can do with this mount, the screws are so small the are not meant for those wall anchors. See the pic, thanks.

Arcadia 39 w UVB light fixture.

Ya, I didnt get those, just 2 cheap black plastic pieces, I guess I'll return it. No reason to do a DIY hang job on a $140 light, ridiculous.

Arcadia 39 w UVB light fixture.

No, just two black plastic clips that dont seam to snap on to the fixture. I cant beleive for the price how cheaply this seems to be made, maybe I'm missing something.

Arcadia 39 w UVB light fixture.

Hello, I was recommended this light fixture for my tortoises. I purchased the ProT5 39w, about 35 inch light fixture. I was under the impression o was going to hang it from a low ceiling, however I see no way that I can install this lamb as a hanging lamp, no holes, hooks etc on the top. I...

Why are pine shavings bad substrate ?

Maybe thats the problem, . I live in SW black hills, South Dakota, in the middle of pine forest and cattle, very few orchids or plants, but pine shavings seem to be used for every animal here. I will continue to shop around for the orchid, but it looks like my only option is online, as there is...

Why are pine shavings bad substrate ?

Hello, I always see pine shavings as a bad substrate listed. I have been using it for 4 years, and just always wanted to know why people think its harmful. The shavings are untreated, super super cheap compared to everything else, the torts dont digest it because the shavings are the larger...

    Naturally Hibernating Russian Tortoises.

Hello, I have 2 Russian Tortoises, male / female. I was curious about hibernation. Is it possible to naturally hibernate them outdoors if you live in the cold weather. I live in South Dakota, and my tortoises are in a large , well protected outdoor greenhouse with heating. Usually i always...
