I've given up on trying to feed em the mix because of exactly that. I'll try just adding a miniscule amount now and see if that works. thanks for the suggestion Tom!

    Arcadia Optimised52 Tortoise Food

I have trouble feeding my Star with this. He just sticks to Mazuri Original pellets although the arcadia one looks much healthier/organic. I even tried mixing the two together but he just won't touch it... He wouldn't touch his normal fresh greens if I were to mix it with the arcadia food.. Let...

Need advice for choosing my first tortoise

Hi flovdome! Welcome to the forum! I would suggest looking into all the different care sheets on this forum to start to get an understanding of the environments and spaces most suitable for each of the species. I'm not sure redfoots or yellowfoots may be a good option if you can only keep them...

Hi all, Hope everyone had a nice thanksgiving with lots of good food and hopefully a not so dry Turkey! My Indian Star Sunny is just over a years old and now weighs 306 g. 10 Month Sunny!

Sunny the Indian Star is now officially 10 months old and going strong at 217g! We think he’s a boy judging by his tail size but we’ll wait one more year and asks the forum to make sure then. Tortoises in general are so silly! He’ll also get a mansion upgrade when AP cages arrive!

Tortoises at the Bronx Zoo in NY

Can't agree more lol! Tim, I stood in front of the Aldabras for a good 10 minute straight and other visitors are trying to see if they missed anything in the range they didn't see. Nope, I'm just staring at the same tortoise for 10 minutes!

[Beginner Question] Makeshift Closed Chamber with Aluminum Foil?

Update on the enclosure 8 month later. I've recently replaced my old cypress mulch with a fresh pack. Since I'll be getting AP enclosures soon in a couple of months (fingers crossed), I decided to have a little fun and replaced a third of the woodchip with coco coir and put a jade plant and an...

Tortoises at the Bronx Zoo in NY

My wife and I went to the Bronx Zoo last weekend in New York. They have quite a variety of tortoises on display. I believed we' saw redfoots, aldabras, spider tortoises, egyptians, radiated, bell's hingeback tortoises, and pancake tortoises. The Bronx Zoo has the most variety of tortoises I've...

Thanks for all the insights, the more I learn the more I feel like husbandry turns to be “it depends “ but you gotta use your best judgment and general best practice!

Do I still need basking light when it's hot?

Hi all, Now that the weather is getting warmer. My indoor enclosure is around 85-90 w/o a 80w basking light and reach upwards of mid 90s in the enclosure and ~105-110 under the basking plate if I have the basking light on. Do I still need to turn on the basking light or should I turn it off...
