Me and my wife would really like to adopt a tortoise that needs a new home. We know the responsibility and work that they require. She let her neighbor have hers that she raise from a hatchling when she went to college and couldn’t bring herself to take it back when she graduated. We have held off for a few years till we got a yard and a good fence and enough room for it to be comfortable

that's awesome to hear, there are SO MANY in need of homes. This is a great place to start and get your setup going before you bring one home.

Craigslist is often a good source, I don't know what part of TX you are in, but if you are driving distance to WV check out this one in need of a home:

Sulcata do seem to be the tortoise species that most often needs a new home.
So few keepers have realistic expectations about what keeping a Sulcata into adulthood takes.
I'd also place a "wanted" ad in the local Craigslist.
Or find one here.

So today... 3" of snow here in south central... PA. Lol.

Stump today, was a maniac, knocking over bricks by the stove, bugging my wife to go out IN THE SNOW.
After he ran/jumped out of her office door into the snow (which she couldn't believe), she took him to a small area of the yard where there was some bare grass. After 1 minute and 5 bites he decides that there MUST be some better grass somewhere out there so he takes off through the snow. She then brought him in after a couple minutes and snow stuck in his diggers.

Mind you, he was by the wood stove and core temp top and bottom of 112 degrees before he went out -w- his thinsulate gaiter and coat. He was 90deg top and bottom when he came in.

When I just filled the stove I shoveled a portion of the yard. Just for him so he can eat grass tomorrow. That is one sentence that I never thought I would type.

I am traveling through there in sept/oct but could talk to the wife about flying out and driving home.
My Donny really needs a new home as soon as possible. Is that possible for you, however? What do you need to know from me? You sound like you'd give Donny a great home. Texas would be perfect for my little guy!

I've never given a pet away. I have had my cats, dogs, birds, even my fish from day one until their passing. This is incredibly heartbreaking for me. I want Donny to get the absolute best care he needs and deserves. Someone who is on this Forum is a must. ♥️💔❤️‍🩹

I hate for you to have to give Donny away and we would definitely have to stay in touch and send you vids and picture updates of him.

That's crazy that you said that! I talked with my husband saying that I really wanted whomever adopted Donny to send me 2-3 pics a week. He said that was ridiculous. OK, OK. 2-3 a month? He laughed! Lol! That would make me incredibly happy, and help me through this. You are so kind.
