So I've got a pinkbelly sideneck, right? I said to myself,
"She can't stay outside like the other turtles this winter. Guess I can get her a stock tank or one of the 40s out of the attic."
Then another voice in me said, "No! Build her a pond." But I'm broke. "BUILD IT!" How?! "FIGURE IT OUT!" So, I did...I WENT TO GET SOME PALLETS.

Once I loaded up the truck, it was back to the house to take these things apart.

Took a while, and my upper back started to feel it too. Keep in mind, I'm not a carpenter, but I had a plan. One of them was to rip the 2x4 into 2x2 keep that in mind.

These things were loaded with nails...and screws of all things.

Got em' all dolled up, and cut them into 2ft and 4ft pieces. Remember...I said I'd rip the 2x4 in half.

I set out the frames and put them together.

I put them together, and because I didn't cut them as intended, I had to put them together awkwardly. I know what your thinking, "why not take them apart and rip them?" Good question. I have a rare condition called being lazy. So let's progress and make things harder than they must, Ok big head?

Now for the wall pieces.

I'm not a carpenter, but my cuts were chefs kiss.

She's getting there, wouldn't date her, but she's working on herself.

It's not about what's on the outside.

We put in nights as well.

I filled in the awkward side space with scrap 2x4, now for the floor.

Had the bright idea to rip some boards in half to make floor studs.

Stick with me.

Got distracted and covered that awkward gap more.

Back to the floor.

Started from the bottom, because if you fall it's not a far drop.

Getting somewhere

Nice, don't point out that crooked board, and don't ask if I fixed it. Just assume I did...

Starting lying out the floor, but I wanted to move to the wall instead.

Was running low on boards so I had to get creative with some scrap cuts.

Planned on insulating the walls, but a storm was on the way, and I had a few days to finish. She looking pretty good though.

Got some carpet while getting pallets, will serve perfect as underlayment.

With my older sister talking my ear off, I put in the liner.

Terrible trim, and execution, but remember...say it with me, "I'm not a carpenter." Gold star my friend.

This thing was heavy. My brother and I got in it the house. Not gonna tell you what I was shaking like, just know no dollar bills were being thrown at me.

Got her filled up(500gallons), and even used some of the scrap boards and foam from shipping boxes to male a dock.
I think she likes it. Still have to add some things, but project done.
This was a blast to work on. Not a tutorial or anything; just an example; You can keep these animal's in optimal conditions without blowing the bank, jut takes a bit of creativity, time , and passion
