Tortoise back feet nails

My tortoise’s back leg toe nails have some pretty elongated scales around it and I was wondering if this is due to his toe nails getting too long? I’m wondering if this is normal or if this means something other than needing his nails clipped! Let me know your thoughts!

Looks normal and fine to me. Is it a female? Mature females grow longer back nails to be able to reach further down into the dirt when digging nest holes.
