Herme is a 2 yo Eastern Hermanns. I got him when he was only 3 months old and had a hard time getting him to eat anything but romaine. Now a year and half later he has a picky palate still and this is what he is eating everyday...1 teaspoon of small mazuri pellets mixed with flower topper. I crush up the flowers and add warm water to soften in a small clay saucer. I also put 3 large dark green organic romaine leaves. He eats everyday and as soon as I change his water he waits behind the fern(fake) until I put food in and then comes a running! I grow the cactus and keep trying but he will not eat. He LOVES hibiscus flowers but very cautious due to air pollution in my area. I live in South Florida but unfortunately ALOT of surrounding neighbors use weed killer also. I have bought food grade dried hibiscus flowers and he will eat occasionally when I steep them soft...he really likes the water from it! I want to do right by my little man and am always up for feedback and suggestions. He is an indoor tort due to the predators in my neighborhood.

Hi and welcome to you and your tortoise 😄.
Have you tried him with natural weeds and leaves gathered from the wild fields and woods, like dandelions, clover and purslane? Also pumpkin vine leaves and flowers, okra, kale, pak choy?

Thanks for a reply Tammy. I use the Tortoise Table on all the wild plants I feed him. Lots of purslane but toxic and the others are noted as sparingly. Hard to find wild fields and woods in my area. I did bring home from a visit to Illinois several dandelion and wild violets. I grow them in pots. Violets did not grow well but I still have dandelions after a year of growing. He will eat a small bit of curly endive and kale but also a sparingly eat on table. I was just curious how many others feed everyday as some of the "experts" suggest 2-3 times a week. I feel like he would be looking up at me and if could talk..."hey you I'm starving...when ya feeding me?" LOL

If your tortoise has a nice large enclosure or yard to roam around, you can feed him a big pile of suitable food every day and let him eat as much as he wants. Just remove any leftovers in the evening.
