    Tortoise Enclosure [In Progress]

Revision: eliminated the 2nd story for now until i test out the first level, gave it some legs so it's more of a proper tortoise table, added the uv heat lamp. next trip to home depot, i've been going there a lot just to browse, i'll pick up some mulch. i think i'm going to go with...

New Home Ideas And A Guess Of Cost Anyone ?

Possible problem could be the temperature: "Temperature is critical for a healthy tortoise. The pen should have a cool end with the temps in the low 70's and a basking spot at 90-95°F. Night time temperature drops are needed. Mine do well with temps that drop down into the 60's at night...

rubber mulch - is it safe?

I found this answer: Is Rubber Mulch dangerous for children or pets? Rubber Mulch is completely non-toxic, including the paints used for our colored versions. If a piece is accidentally ingested, it passes straight through the digestive tract of humans and animals...

New Home Ideas And A Guess Of Cost Anyone ?

a 4'x8' piece of plywood is about $10-20. if you bought two, one could be your base and the other you could cut for the walls. so you're looking at probably $20-40 for the enclosure. then buy one really long piece of lumber and have home depot cut all your legs with that for the table. maybe $20...

New Home Ideas And A Guess Of Cost Anyone ?

If you're handy, building a tortoise table with dimensions that will fit in your living room will probably be a good option. you can then paint it and jazz it up to match your decor. get creative and add a sliding plexiglass top to make sure your cat doesn't jump in. you should be able to get...

rubber mulch - is it safe?

I saw some rubber mulch today while browsing through different choices and wanted to know if anybody uses this for their tortoise enclosures? The biggest concern to me is if the tortoise were to chew on it and attempt to swallow it. If that isn't a threat are there any other disadvantages...

    inside enclosure

what i planned on doing is having a designated soil only/digging area somewhere in the enclosure and surrounding the remaining areas with mulch and sprinkling in some soil here and there to soften it up. i think any way you plan to do it will be fine though.

    Tortoise Enclosure [In Progress]

I just realized my dimensions were with the flaps/walls before they were folded in. Correct Dimensions: 71"L x 27"W x 14.5"H Yes, what I liked about the storage cubes is the flexibility to create a customizable space and one that is easily expandable at any time. I'll be sure to make sure the...

    Tortoise Enclosure [In Progress]

Deciding to opt out of the modified ping pong table idea proposed in my other thread based upon forum member recommendations, I have started the process of putting together a different enclosure set-up. This is just the skeleton of it and there's much more to do so I will update this thread as I...

Wanted: Russian or Greek Tortoise - Dallas, TX

I've tried craigslist and calling animal shelters to no avail. Is anyone looking to sell/re-home a russian or greek tortoise or know of anyone or place in Dallas, TX that would? Please let me know. Also, I am aware of the reptile expo in Arlington in late July but that seems like a long time...

is a 4ft x 2ft enclosure adequate for a full grown russian tortoise?

thanks for your reply and everyone elses. i am deciding to go a different route and not use the foosball table idea. i'm gonna go for something a little bigger :) . hopefully i'll get a chance to get the materials this week and when i have the basic shell of the enclosure set-up i will post...

is a 4ft x 2ft enclosure adequate for a full grown russian tortoise?

i agree with you on the 6x2 being a sort of a 'sweet spot' and i also wanted to do a cage initially but couldn't find one in that particular size. i think i could manage doing a setup of that size and after googling some examples of do-it-yourself cages, it lead me to a simpler solution and i...

is a 4ft x 2ft enclosure adequate for a full grown russian tortoise?

true and true to both of your points. more space is always better. i'll try and see if it's possible to add a 2nd floor to the enclosure somehow to at least manipulate the space limitations but it will all be experimental. just want to attempt something unconventional and see if i can actually...

hi, thanks for having me. you should be seeing me post regularly on here as i'm sure to have a lot of questions as i prepare to get my first tortoise (and first ever pet actually). thanks, i'm just trying to do as much research as possible as this is all very new territory for me. sounds...

is a 4ft x 2ft enclosure adequate for a full grown russian tortoise?

I want to build the enclosure before I get the tortoise and I was wanting to know if 48"x24" (4ft x 2ft) is adequate to house one fully grown russian? I ask about these restrictions specifically because I want to see if I can find an old foosball table on craigslist and convert it into a...
