Hey so Gemini has to be 3 years old now! The last three days, I've come down in the morning to find him having escaped his table and on his back halfway across the room in exactly the same spot. There's no hazards on the floor, and he's capable of escaping his table or climbing just about...
I'm wondering at what age a male Hermann's usually has their first orgasm... note, not the age they are able to reproduce at, but when they have their first ejaculation.
Gemini very rarely passes urates. He was walking around normally today, then stopped & raised himself on his back two legs...
I don't mean literally of course...
But when you have to carry your tortoise from A to B, do they stick their legs out like they were wings and pretend to glide like a bird?
Gemini has done this since the day we got him, but my friend Owen's tortoise sort of 'paddles' when he is carried...
Hey so.... Gemini appeared today! A changed tortoise. He's headbutting my shoes. Now, maybe I'm cruel but I've deliberately let him wander around the floor today after bathing & feeding just to watch him headbutt random shoes (yeah the floor is clean).
So I am guessing shoe headbutting aliens...
Strangely, this place is 5 miles up the road from me, and it is in the period since he went missing, but unless Gemini put on a few 100g, it isn't him.

Has anyone else's tortoise been abducted by aliens?
Gemini was restless lke we've never seen before around the 10th September. He escaped from his table twice, and was trying to crawl under the door. Eventually we put him in the middle of the room, so he didn't risk toppling climbing the sides...
Thank you! I wouldn't run both - I've been "switching out" MVB / Heat Lamp every hour to try and trick Gem to stay under the MVB.
I had seen those before, but I thought it needed some kind of special wiring or light fitting? Do they just plug into the main socket with a plug? Suppose I can...
Thanks for the reply Reptilony!
Yes it's a mercury vapour bulb... it irritates MY eyes, let alone Gem's.
Do you know if there any UVB BULBS that don't produce heat? I've seen UVB strips, but afraid I won't be able to install them, as I'm not too handy.
I've had Gemini for 10 weeks now.
We had a lot of sun over summer, so he was outdoors most days, and I didn't really worry about his dislike of the UVB lamp too much, and figured he'd adjust to it. But, he just won't bask under the UVB, even though he'll bask under a heat lamp without UVB...
4. YES I KNOW!!! ARGH
1. Tort table was slightly elevated off floor, he climbed out over the side of his table diagnoally up the wall.
3. He's yet to escape his outside enclosure with wire on. He's tried to burrow out, but nope... it's HUGE. 6' x 4'.
Indoor enclosure (not tort table, which is...
Had my little tort three weeks now, he's 8 months old. I don't think these count as beginners mistakes so much as they're all round stupidity on my part (and maybe Gemini, a little).
1. Gemini learned how to climb a brick wall next to his tort table. I only realised when I saw him fall from...
Thank you Danielle. I've been soaking daily (& twice a day sometimes) - 15 minutes a time. I've seen him poop twice in ten days, I think. Being a newbie I can't really tell if it's a large piece of dirt that's just washed away or if he's pooped, I'm going with poop.
Also, as he has an outdoor...
I've had my tort for 10 days now, baby Hermanns about 7 months old, but measuring him on the Jackson Ratio he's coming in as severely underweight.
65mm and 37g. Is this right?
He is super active, very fast, a real climber, & burrower, surprisingly affectionate. I've not seen him wee yet...
