    New family members

I am getting 2 tortoises in a rehoming situation. A sulcata and a Russian. I don't have all the information yet, but it sounds like they've been housed together for a few years. The Sulcata is supposedly around 40 lbs. I've never thought about cohabitating species, especially with such a big...

    Fencing

Long story short I'll be rescuing a supposedly 10yr old 40lb sulcata. I have 1/2 acre privacy fenced in, but am concerned about him pushing/ digging out. Any suggestions or advice? I've fostered Sulcatas before but the fence we have now is new, and I am wanting to keep this one permanently.

    Stupid questions

I have two very stupid questions. So forgive me lol. Would putting my larger sulcata in the bed of a truck to take him to the vet be wrong? How do you guys transport larger torts? He technically fits in my backseat, but not with my son in his carseat back there. So do I need to find a...

    Hibiscus

I have two large hibiscus trees that aren't flowering yet this year. I know the leaves are good for the sulcatas, but can I just cut an entire branch off and put it in there, or should I cute off the leaves and put just those in there? Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using TortForum mobile app

    New one is here already!

It just got dropped off. Apparently she (?) was found wandering near a fishing hole. We have to keep her 3 business days to allow the owner to reclaim her. But here are some pictures I took. She is 54 lbs of super friendly tort. After the hold is up she will be going to the vet but I wanted...

    Getting another rescue....

So the rescue I foster for, (and my girl Bazinga is a foster failure from), has another Sulcata that I will be taking in (temporarily or permanently remains to be seen). Any advice on getting them together- or should I not? I wasn't going to until the new one had her vet check up, and had both...

    wildflower mix?

Just was at Home Depot and saw wildflower mix and it triggered some dusty memory that some people planted that in their pens for grazing. Yay or nay? Do I need to be careful about what's in it? Or can I order the premade specific mixes and just hope it grows? I live just south of Chicago, so I...

    Substrate?

I just moved my sulcata indoors for the winter, and I had a quick question. I use Yesterday's News in my rabbits litterboxes, would I be able to use the same product for my tortoise?

    lights?

What are some good brands of heat and uva \ uvb lights? And good places to order from? I brought my sulcata bazinga in and I thought I had some bulbs left from my old herps, but I must have donated them to the rescues through the years. Any help would be appreciated!!

I found some cactus fruit at a local grocery store. Two questions, how long is it good in the fridge, and should this be considered like other fruit- as in give sparingly? I haven't given any yet, but I'm pretty excited about it!

    stupid ?

So I know my girl is grazing and eating the plants I have in her edible garden. But as far as her hay and the weeds I'm giving, what is a good way to feed her so I can monitor amount? And is there a set amount (like in cups or some form of measurement) that they eat in a day or two? Currently I...

    stunting?

The more I read and look at various growth patterns, the more I'm convinced that my girl is stunted due to her previous care. Granted, I don't know an exact age. She is (supposedly) at least 8 but can be as old as 15 or 20. She weigh approx 15lbs and is about a ft and a half shell length. (I...

    Outdoor temps

I live in Northwest Indiana. I was wondering what are the extremes on the temps I need to worry about. She is out 24/7 currently. Right now the lowest it's been getting is 75/80 F at night. Highest is 102 during the day- usually closer to 90/92 though (she already has started a burrow- a good 3-4...
