Thanks. It's a good idea about the light. I would like to hang it I think.
He has always had a see through cage and been fine, but I will keep an eye on him for signs of stress.
I used latex primer to waterproof the bottom.
I have been wanting a table for Spike for awhile now, so I scavenged the backyard for lumber and this is what happened...
Found this, I'm not sure what the previous owners used it for.
Washed it with the hose.
Sealed the cracks.
Waterproofed.
Built a house with hinged lid from scrap lumber...
I'm going to assume that you know sulcatas can reach sizes of 200lbs or more, of course that will be awhile. The others are right though, they will outgrow a storage container quickly. Mine is a year old and he does fine in his, but he is on there by himself and its about 3ft long. I would...
This happened to my dog with a red eared slider from outside, not a good experience for any of us and his poor tongue was bleeding. I didn't watch the video, just assuming from the comments that the tort but the dogs tongue.
I worked at PetSmart for 5 years and like to think that I was pretty smart about pet care- but I def. agree with the fact that some or most retail pet store employees are very uneducated on pet care. I have heard some pretty dumb thimgs myself. Here is my favorite:
I was shopping for a gecko...
Finally able to post some pics.
After I finished putting the bricks in.
Another view.
After I put dirt and peat moss in.
After I planted the pansies.
Spike enjoying his new house. :)
I still need to put chicken wire top on it to keep hawks away and do some more...
Here are some photos of my progress so far. The first two are just after I finished putting the bricks in. The last one is after I put some peat moss, seeds and a little log shelter. I still need the get some edible plants, a humid hide, and a water dish.
I should have explained more... I pulled them because the are dead and hard- we live in a part of Texas where the ground is just rock. What grows isn't really grass. I was going to replant with edible stuff once I'm done. I've already started with the blocks and they are the thinner ones, but I...
I'm starting with a 5x7 chain link dog kennel to keep our dogs and other critters out. I'm using cinder blocks to line to inside to keep Spike from getting to the chain link. He's little, he'll either escape or get tangled. I pulled up the grass and weeds that were there and I plan on putting...
He was already pyramiding when I got him. :( I cannot tell if its getting worse, but I'm afraid it is. My temps stay at 90-100 under his basking light and 70-80 ambient. He has a humid hide that stays constantly moist and I spray him and the enclosure a few times a day. He has access to water...
I know.. I could have tried to shoot through the glass with my phone I guess. Too late now. :p

Here- stole it off the internets! Its ine of the ones from the tulsa zoo though. Lol we all know what they look like from aldabra's posts here. I was just excited to see them in real life.
Saw my first live Aldabra today at the Tulsa zoo. Pretty amazing animals. I didn't take any pics as they were in the shelter staying warm, but they were huge. The oldest one was estimated to be 125 years old.
Spike just has a uv basking bulb because when I first got him and had the original setup with the UVB bulb, I was informed that I did not need it it and it could actually hurt/blind him. Tom suggested that he would be fine with at least 20 min of sun twice a week. Well now it is too cold for...
RE: the new "what do you look like" thread
I couldn't remember if I had posted, and couldn't find my old post so I'm posting a new one. :)
Idk why it's sideways..
