1000020504.pngHi everyone. I got this Tortoise from a friend, not sure how old or what subspecies he is, and just now noticed he is missing half of his right leg. He walks alot and doesnt seem to strugle too much. Can he grow his leg back? Can I help him with something?

Poor baby :( Looks like it's pretty well healed over. No - it will not grow back. As long as it's getting around ok, I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

No, it can't grow a leg back.
I would not set up an enclosure that is only on cement or bricks either. Not sure if the pic is from his enclosure or not.

Bless him! It’s nice you’ve took him in🐢💚

Don’t suppose you’d mind sharing how you plan to keep him? We might be able to advise with housing!

Do you plan for an indoor or outdoor set up? What size?
What are your temperatures like at the moment? Ie basking spot(directly under bulb), overall day temps, night temps?
What kind of lighting&heating are you using specifically? Packaging photos are good if you have any!
Are you using indoor uv? Is so what kind?
How’s humidity? What are you using for substrate?
How’s his diet been with you so far?

Any answers to those questions along with a photo of the full set up would be wonderful if you’re willing to share!🐢💚

It looks like a western hermann. However wait for an expert.

Its getting cold and im planning to slowly help him hibernate by the start of november,
in Moldova right now the temps are
15°C🌥 -> 1C🌙 (59°F ->33°F). I have 6 years of experience so he will be fine under my hands dont worry, i will work on a new home for him after the winter, for now i realse him in the yard under my view and take him with the others inside at night, separated. I havent saw him eating but i think he just needs to accommodate. I will update if anything happends✌🏻

When building his home, I would choose a soft substrate, that would be easy for him to walk on and not harm his skin. Maybe coco coir? And avoid any harsh materials like stone, since his shell is probably going to get scratched more than a normal tortoises.

Good thing is, looks like the leg is well healed (from the photo).
