Hi,
I'm new here. I'm an owner of two tortoises. One is 5 years old Testudo Hermanni Hermanni (the name is Guinness), the other is 30 years old Testudo Hermanni Hercegovinensis - Frank.
They live in different eclosures, as it is impossible to have them together in one terrarium.
This is Frank: http://pre03.deviantart.net/b339/th/pre/f/2016/050/c/a/tortoise_by_naipryc12-d9sauwq.png
and this is Guinness: http://orig12.deviantart.net/6682/f/2013/019/9/8/sleeping_tortoise_by_naipryc12-d5rylek.jpg (this photo is two years old, so Guinness is much bigger now)

It is very nice to find out, that there are more people loving these cute animals...

regards

With Siarajakdzwon it is a joke, that ment to be funny. But Guinness and Frank are real. Frank is having a visit at a vet, as it bites and wants to mate with everything, out reptile specialist suggested an injection of hormones, even though in 30% of cases it does not work... But Frank is suffering from his urge to mate, and we'd like to ease things up for him...

I have direct experience of a male Testudo with excess testosterone.

Biting and mating with everything going are normal for a male, but in my tort's case his obsession with mating meant he wasn't eating or drinking and he lost approximately one third of his bodyweight. There are a couple of threads on here about it.

My vet is very experienced with torts and decided in the end to give him a testosterone implant of the kind that zoos give male animals when they need to keep groups of males together but not neuter them.

It was successful, but had to be repeated 2 years later. It's now 2 years since the second implant. At the moment, he seems OK but I am monitoring Joe and will have him back for another if I see the problem recurring.

At 30 yrs old he'a probably at his prime. (That was a joke! I really have no idea what I'm talking about here) How about getting him a little harem of females?

Well I didn't plan having more than one tortoise. Frank is adopted. He was found in polish mountains, and his species do not live here. Since he had no place to go,and I already had Guinness at home, well the decision seemed obvious. We have quite small flat, even for polish standards, having a harem is not an option...
