Hi there! First time tortoise owner here, and my new Russian is arriving in a few days. I want to be prepared to make the transition into her new home as smooth as possible--does anyone have any "immediately upon arrival" tips? Should I give her a soak before putting her in her new enclosure? Wait a little while for her to explore? Offer food immediately or give it a few hours?

Greetings

Id soak in nice warm water as soon as you pop it out of the shipping container. Then, place it into the enclosure that is already set up at proper temp, good moist substrate, lighting, a hide, food, water. Then - hands off, let it settle in and explore.

Theres lots of info on this Forum ... keep reading and asking.

Good luck

The Hands off for the arrival day and maybe the next day, but not forever.

Good point :). Should have said, give it the rest of the day/night to settle in without the urge to constantly pick it up, move it about, yank out of hide.....etc. Next day, get into a good routine, checking, soaking, feeding, lights on timers, etc.
