Acorns

This time of year, acorns are falling from the trees and into water. They're a great source of protein for turtles reading themselves for brumation such as mud and musk turtles and snappers.

Another proof that Chelonians don't worry about plant constituents that we do (mega-doses of tannins in this case).

I wouldn’t have thought they’d eat acorns but as we say at our house, turtles do what they want. No cares as to what we think.

Best teachers about animals are animals. Sometimes watching them in the wild( if they aren't spooked and run like you have an axe) really gives you a good idea of their habitat, diet and behavior Like Tom Crutchfield says, "Just shut up and watch!" ?
