Hi, everyone,

Could you take a look and tell me if Aggie looks ok? I'm especially wondering about the bump on each back leg. Since it's bilateral, I'm hoping it's normal, but I've never noticed the bumps before.

Are there any signs of shell rot? (I forgot to take a photo of his plastron, but it looks fine.)

He is now about 15 months old. He weighed 40g a year ago today. Now he's at 218g. Does that seem like decent weight gain?

He lives in one of Mark's Smart Enclosures, so temp and humidity are pretty well managed. And, he does get a bath at least 5 days a week.

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much for looking!

Those little bumps are totally normal and he'll probably grow a few more as he gets bigger. They're kind of like protection for the that area. Thigh & Butt Protectors 😂

Edit: weight gain looks awesome! I don't see any rot concerns. Are there areas you're concerned about that, after a gentle scrub, look problematic?

Thank you so much for looking and for taking the time to reply!

He didn't use to have those kind of speckly darker spots in the light colored areas, so I was worried that might be abnormal. They're not soft or anything, but this is my first & only (for now!! :) ) tortoise, so I thought I'd ask.

Yep, totally normal. I think they are called spurs.

As for the shell rot, it is rare in Russian tortoises. Either way, it usually starts from the bottom of the shell.

Spurs = Butt Protectors 😂 yes, that's the word that was completely escaping me (not yet sufficiently caffeinated) brain
