I did not state that I bake them hot and dry, please dont twist my words.

This is a quote from the above link:
Yes, hun, thanks a million and if you re-read my initial post you will hopefully this time see what I mentioned about humidity.

I feed youngsters 6 days a week until they are 5-6 months old and then less frequently, usually 5 days per week. Adults eat every other day.

Many thanks to everyone for the help with the opinions on the air-cell chamber situation when I started this thread. Bye now

No one said YOU made them hot and dry.

If YOU read what I wrote you will see that it says Pyramiding is from being hot and dry.

However I did say that they need food offered EVERY day. Then gave you some copied info about skipping feedings not really prevent pyramiding.

It seems strange that you want to storm off because you are being given info that conflicts with what you believe. Exploring new info that might possibly have the better long-term value seems like a wise thing to do, but you have free will to throw away a chance to have healthier animals.

Feel free to come back. We will still answer your questions and do what we can to help tortoises have the best possible lives and thrive.

Thank you
Unfortunately this ia what most people think but they definitely should not be fed daily.
You are reading and following old, outdated, incorrect info. This is common as that is mostly what is out there. What is stated here is fact that is based on decades of research, experimentation and collaboration with others also doing similar experiments. There is no scientific literature to cite, because no scientist knows or studies these things.

The outward obvious aggression is uncommon in babies. The big concern is the chronic stress that is caused by keeping them as a pair. Groups of babies are generally fine. Its pairs that are the problem. With Russians, things are often fine right up until the day things aren't fine, and then it is too late. Here is just one example;
We are harping on you about this because we've seen it so many times, and we don't want to see it again.

Same with the old feeding info. In the wild they graze as much as they want every day. They don't skip unless it's cold and stormy and they stay hidden from inclement weather. Pyramiding is not caused by lack of UV, too much food, the wrong food, lack of calcium, or any of the things that it has commonly been attributed to over the last few decades. All of those things are necessary for a healthy tortoise, but those things have nothing to do with pyramiding. Pyramiding is caused by growth in conditions that are too dry. That's it. Conditions can be too dry because of using the wrong bulbs, wrong substrate, or simply having an open top that lets all the heat and humidity escape.

We aren't saying these things to upset you. We are saying them because there is a lot of old bad info out in the world and we've learned better. We don't want people to learn the hard way.

All of the above and much more is in this thread. It is not necessarily for people that are new to tortoises. It's for people that haven't seen this new info yet. Its a real eye opener if you'll take a few minutes to read it.
