Hello everyone!

We finally started turning on the heat today, and of course ambient humidity took a big drop. We're currently sitting at around 40%. The problem is that I can't really keep the cage completely covered because of the CHE and UVB bulb. I added another board today and that brings it up to maybe 65% of the enclosure covered.

I provide Darwin's enclosure with a quart or two of water every other day on the basking side, and I have a pool of water right underneath the basking light to help humidify the air. He spends most of his days in a humid hide right undeneath the CHE. How worried should I be that the ambient humidity is pretty low?

Crisis averted! Adding an extra board to cover the cage has increased humidity by nearly 20%.

There is not a lot of solid data about ambient humidity vs. localized humidity, but many people have had success with it.

You can also boost the effectiveness of your system by using foil around the domes to fill in the gaps.
