Are sea shells safe?

I was thinking of scattering them around Sheldon's water bowl to create a kind of drying off area.
All feed back is greatly appreciated.

I'm going to use them in my next enclosure, big enough that they won't be ingested.

since you can houuse hermit crabs with tortoises in a large enough enclosure, I am going to go out on a limb and say that sea shells are safe. You just want to make sure they are nice and clean beforehand, especially if you take them right out of the ocean.
