I was just wondering if small amounts of avocado are ok for greek tortoises. I know it's probably on here somewhere, but I can't find it.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure avacado is a no no for tortoises. Its pretty oily, and toxic to birds. Also, it is considered a fruit, so if your tortoise is not supposed to have fruit, he shouldn't have avacado.

I thought greeks could have small amounts of fruit NOT every day. Is this wrong?

DON'T feed it. I made that mistake once. I thought I had killed my adult male. Thank god it was my adult that got it, not the little ones, or I'm sure it would have been fatal.

See this thread: http://tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Nigel-seems-sick-please-help

Wow, I just read your thread about Nigel eating the avocado! I am very worried now. I thought since I couldn't find anything negative about it, what the hay, it can't be bad. Well crap, I ended up feeding a little earlier, and I feel quite stupid for doing so!

Did you search the word Avocado? That thread should have come up. I never feed my Greeks fruit. They would not eat it in the wild, why should they have it in captivity? I find its best to try and mimic as natural of a diet as possible. Healthiest for the animal.

I don't usually feed fruits, just tried it because I read they can have small amounts. Anyways, he is fine today, normal as ever. I now know my mistake, so I won't be making it again. Somebody had told me they COULD eat them, but i should have confirmed it here first
