Commercial baby food is often loaded with sugars, preservatives, etc. The act of pureeing food also destroys the cell walls, messing up the fiber content.
Having a couple jars of a good, organic-ish food on hand for an emergency is useful, but as a regular food, it is best for enticing reluctant eaters or hiding medicines.
Several years ago I hatched out 3 yellowfoot babies and I had a heck of a time getting them started eating. Finally I had a brain storm and bought some strained fruit baby food. I chopped up the veggies in the normal way, then I dribbled fruit baby food over the top. THEY ATE!!
