Good day Members.

I need assistance . I got a baby leopard tortoise from a colleage this morning but the eyes seems either to be closed or covered by white skin as seen in the attached picture . Has anyone seen this before ? I can not find anything online .

Thanks a lot in advance .

@Tom should be able to help you. What are the temperatures in your enclosure? give the tortoise a shallow soak in warm water keep the water warm and let him be in the water for 20 to 30 minutes.

Thanks a lot for the speedy response . I am not sure of the temperature that he ran for the Tortoise .

I will do that immediately.

Is the tortoise's eyes closed or is it something else ?

I am not an expert, but a long shallow soak will help. What was he being fed? It looks like he was raised without enough humidity. Also improper lights may be why his eyes are closed. What lights are you using

The eyes are swollen shut. He needs immediate attention.

Using a smallish bowl with tall sides so he can't climb out, add a 50/50 solution of Gerber strained carrots and warm water. The solution should cone up to the middle of his sides. Set te bowl back inside his enclosure NEXT to where the light shines on the floor, but NOT directly under the light. Checking on him occasionally, leave him there for an hour or so.

If you do this every day, his eyes will be open after the third day.

In the meantime read our leopard caresheet and set thebaby's enclosure up accordingly.

Yes, your tortoise's eyes are swollen shut. I'm sorry. The conditions that led to this situation usually make for a tough road of recovery.

Best thing you can do for the little guy is to read the care sheet, set him up properly and keep him hydrated. Wish you the best luck.
