Baby turtle in big tank

So I have a little turtle, like less than an inch and a half, and I wanted to know if putting him in a 40 gallon tank would be too big for him? I’m trying to decide between a 20 gallon long tank and a 40 gallon. Obviously in the wild, 40 gallons is nothing, but in my eyes 40 gallons looks huge compared to them, even though they’ll only be a few inches of water. This question might just sound crazy lol but I need some advice.

What kind of turtle? Slides/cooters/maps are all good with as much water as you will give them. As long as you provide a place or places for them to cling to plants or rocks near the surface you can't give them too much. For mud/musk turtles you can stay a little smaller. But with sliders, cooters, and maps you don't even have to keep the water shallow unless you want to.

I’m almost positive he’s a river cooter, but he might be a slider. I’ll add a picture. I’ll definitely get the bigger tank then, because I’ll eventually need the bigger one, and eventually will need an even bigger one than the 40 gallon. My main problem right now is where I’m gonna put the tank, the turtle kind of came upon me when I bird dropped him in my driveway (lucky it’s alive) but the placement of the tank is my problem not the turtles lol so I’ll have to find a spot for him so he can be comfy. Thank you!!

Thank you for saving him!
Just a thought: look at the care sheets here and decide if you think you will realistically have space for proper care. If not, he’s probably native to your area and you can either contact a wildlife rehab or consider allowing him to live in the wild.

I have done sooooo much research, over the past week and I contacted local turtle wildlife specialists and everything. I decided on keeping him. I got him a 75 gallon tank and all kind of other things and he’s doing okay I think! He’s a part of the fam now!
