baking rocks?

i got a couple rocks for Captain from the desert. i want to bake them to get them disinfected, how long and at what temperature do i bake them? does it matter what type of rock or how big it is?

I don't know about baking a rock. I just wash them really good with bleach and detergent, then rinse well and leave in the sun for a day or two. If you don't want to use detergent and bleach, you can make a paste out of table salt and water and scrub well with a brush, rinse and leave in the sun for a day or two.

When I cleaned some rocks for my little guy I soaked them in hot mildly soapy water, then rinsed and soaked them a few more times.

I agree, a good rolling boil in a big stock pot would work just fine, and no chemicals involved.
