hello im new to tortoises and ive been reading about basking i have a 1 year old russian tortoise and i just wanted to ask if this is an appropiate lamp for basking;

Most of us recommend against using halogen bulbs due to the dessicating effect they can have on the shell. We recommend using 65w incandescent flood bulbs instead.

Yeah as mentioned I’d avoid these kind of bulbs.

Hopefully you might find this indoor housing thread I made useful, it covers equipment, levels, importance of a closed chamber for younger tortoises like yours, appropriately maintaining humidity, substrates, there’s lots of visual examples for everything and a really handy diet link to check out! If going with a greenhouse, the lower the ceiling height, whilst still allowing for recommended bulb height, the better!

This includes some other closed chamber options

Lastly, this one is also really good to familiarise yourself with, it’ll help you avoid the wrong bulbs, housing etc, I always encourage double checking purchases on the forum too before buying
