So last weekend i bought a baby (6 months old), leopard tortoise from the reptile expo.

May seem like a stupid question... but when they are this small are they able to determine if they need heat or not?
I ask this because mine is really hiding in the hide spot and not coming out to the basking light at all or neat the ceramic heater. The temps near the hot end are around 95-97. As i have read it should be like 100...

I have it setup in a rubbermaid under the bed container. It does have the cover on it to help keep the humidity in.

Not sure if the cool side is too cool.... then not sure how i am going to increase it? hmmm
any suggestions?

Yes they should be able to regulate themself. The basking should be 95-100 the cool side no lower the 80 if you have a humidity of 80%. If you don't have a high hundiity, then you can have a little lower temp. The higher humdity is better way to go. Also, you have to give it some time to settle in and get comfortable . Read the threads at the bottom of my post. All of them are great for leopards, even the sulcata ones. Make sure all you temps and humidity is correct. Soak every day and have water available 24/7 and give some time to settle in.

Don't worry yet - he is still nervous about the new house. Leopards take a while to acclimate to new surroundings so he'll hide for a while. As he gets more comfortable, he'll come out and explore. Your temps are good so just let him get comfortable for another week and see what happens.
