What are your thoughts on using Black lights on your turtles and tortoises? I have done long researches on the subject and they say that a black light can cause vision damage and possible blindness over a period of time.

Those comments are not talking about the regular incandescent black bulb that is available in K-Mart, etc. The regular incandescent bulb has no special properties other than the glass is either painted black or manufactured black. No UV, nothing but heat from the element. The kind that is dangerous is the kind used for sterilizing. It emits the UV-C and is dangerous to use with reptiles (and humans).

I use black light bulbs on all of my tortoises turtles and box turtles for warmth, I certainly haven't ever noticed any with vision problems that they didn't have when they came to me and I hear most of them listening to Led Zepplin in their habitats...
