Friend of mine came across this specimen today. Western PA. He left it alone. Just took this pic.

Oh how pretty... I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild especially with all the nature hikes I did in AK and CA now here in PDX. Loved the gators and snapping tortoises in Louisiana...

Beautiful! I'm not far from western PA. I'm in eastern Ohio, about an hours drive from PA. And I have never seen a boxie in the wild.

Very cool! I've only ever seen one eastern boxie in the wild here in NH they are such cool little turtles!

Yep. I live in Beaver Co. And in 15 years I have only seen one. I did come across a Wood turtle (clemmys insculpta) on a forest hike which may be even more rare.
Guess boxies are considered threatened now

I stand corrected. Guess Wood turtle genus is Glyptemys now, oops. Must have renamed since the last time I checked.

I've seen them all my life in Indiana. That's why I can't believe there teedering on the endangered list.
