Hey there! New member. I have a lot of box turtles that live outdoors in our fully enclosed backyard. We live in New Mexico. I built an outdoor 8'x3' enclosure to protect hatchlings from roadrunners and coyotes primarily. Hinged lid with chicken wire. Gets some direct sunlight but trees around provide shade. Anyway, many of the turtles in the enclosure develop a shell deformity where the edges curve up. Some shells get lumpy. Any suggestions? Before we started housing them in the enclosure this did not happen. I could skip the enclosure I guess and let nature take its course but want to help the little ones survive.

Post a pic of the enclosure. From my understanding, hatchling Boxies like to be in water almost more than on land. My guess is it's too dry as far as humidity and the amount of water you aren't giving for swimming.
@Yvonne G might be able to help but really need that pic.
