Breeding

I have a male and female greek living together and I am fairly new to this. How can I tell if she is stressed or how can I tell if she likes him?

Hi navarro1331, and welcome to the Forum!

Breeding happens naturally between male/female tortoises, however, you have a much better chance at it if your tortoises are living outside in natural conditions. Breeding can occur in the house, but you must have a very large habitat and a place where the female can dig a hole to lay her eggs. If she doesn't think the habitat is satisfactory, she will not lay her eggs and you run the risk of her becoming egg bound.

So, if you live in an area where you can give the tortoises an outdoor habitat, they will more than likely breed for you without your intervention.

I have a female Greek nesting indoors right now. It is her 3rd clutch of the season. If you keep them together, they will breed. There really is nothing you can do to intervene. She will either allow him to mate her or she won't. As long as you don't see any signs of stress, ie weight loss, decrease activity/appetite, runny nose, etc, they will be fine together and mate when they are ready. It is one of those things they just do.
