Calcium with or with out D3

Im still confused on this i know they need protien so often but should i still give bubbaloo calcium with or without D3 or at all (he has no uvb lights)? i know if he doesnt get the sunlight he shouldnt have the D3 ? Help me please ?

I use Now coral calcium (from healthfood store) once a week sprinkled (use a salt shaker) on fruit. They also have a cuttlebone to gnaw on.

I give him vitasol when i soak him. I soak him about 3-4 times a week but only use the vitasol 2 times.

I wouldnt worry about the d3 then, to much d3 can be a problem but sounds like you dont give a lot so it should be fine. your mt. tortoise is a bigger one right? like 10-12 inches...

twtradio: If he does not get sunlight then he NEEDS D3. If they do get UVB (from outdoors or a bulb) is when you need to be cautious with giving D3, as they are producing their own (I do not supplement it but some disagree). Do you supplement calcium? Vitasol does not provide this in enough of a quantity as far as I know. Everyone I have heard from here stops using Vitasol at one year of age unless the animal is sick. Vitasol has a lot of Vitamin A so I personally would not use it except for a sick tort.

So, my advice is if your tort does not have a UVB bulb and does not get outside, then you need a calcium with D3 supplement.

What protein are you speaking of?
